Daleville is a growing Botetourt County community north of Roanoke, with substantial recent residential and commercial development around the county government centre.
Describe the symptom and roughly when the house was built. That pair narrows most Daleville calls before anyone drives out.
Local pattern
The building pattern here decides which failures are likely, and that changes the first question.
Most Daleville call-outs come down to a drain field asked to take more water than the soil will accept, fixtures worn out by a duty cycle several times ordinary domestic use, or a pressure tank losing its air charge and driving the pump into short cycling. That list is a product of when and how the area was built, not of any one property, so describing the house is more useful on the phone than describing the symptom alone.
Newer construction here means the common calls are heaters, regulators and fixtures rather than pipe.
Housing eras, water supply, soil and freeze exposure across the wider region are set out in full on our Southside & Southwest page. This page covers what is specific to Daleville.

A submersible pump is cooled by the water around it. If it is running and delivering nothing, switch it off at the breaker before anything else. Running dry destroys one in hours, and that turns a diagnosis into a replacement.
The street and the symptom are enough to start narrowing it down.
Common problems
What the common local symptoms usually turn out to be.
| You notice | Usually means | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Low pressure, or pressure that surges | A pressure tank that has lost its air charge | Well pump & water systems |
| No water at all | Pump, switch, or a frozen line depending on the season | Well pump & water systems |
| Slow drains everywhere, or wet ground over the field | A tank due for pumping, or a field at its limit | Septic system plumbing |
| A tap that gives nothing on a cold morning | A frozen line, and possibly one already split | Frozen pipe repair |
| Drains slowing in a kitchen that trades | Grease coating the line, not a blockage | Hydro jetting |
| Sewage backing up | A main line blockage. Stop using water | Emergency plumbing |
Tell us which one it is and we will say what it usually means here.
In practice
Detail on two local questions that are hard to cover properly over the phone.
Freeze damage is one of the few plumbing failures that is almost entirely preventable, and the prevention is unglamorous. Disconnect and drain every hose in November. A hose left attached traps water in the tap body where it cannot drain, and that is how the great majority of outdoor taps split. Close any interior shutoff serving an outdoor tap and leave the tap open through the winter so the section between them stays empty.
Then insulate what crosses unheated space: crawl spaces, garages, outbuildings and any run against an exterior wall. Foam covers on taps help a little and cost little, but they will not save a tap full of trapped water on a hard night. If a tap has frozen once it will freeze again, and replacing it with a correctly pitched frost-free sillcock ends the problem permanently.
A drilled well is a straight route from the surface into the aquifer, and the only thing closing that route is the sanitary cap on top of the casing and the grout seal around it. A cracked cap, a missing screened vent, or a casing that finishes flush with the ground rather than a foot above it lets surface water, insects and small animals straight in, and that is the origin of most bacteria results on wells that have never had a problem before.
Look at it once a year. The casing should stand proud of the surrounding grade, the ground should slope away from it, the cap should be intact and bolted down, and nothing should be stacked against it. Keep fuel, fertiliser, pesticide and livestock well away from the head, and never let a hose end sit in a puddle or a stock trough, because a pressure drop can pull that water backwards into the plumbing.

Yes. Daleville is covered 24 hours a day, along with Eagle Rock, Elliston, Copper Hill, Collinsville, Ferrum and the rest of Southside & Southwest. If your address sits just outside Daleville itself, ring anyway; coverage is wider than any list of place names.
Predominantly recent construction with modern PEX and CPVC supply. County water and sewer through the developed area.
There is no utility answer for Daleville. Almost everything here is on a private well, and hardness varies property to property. Bedrock wells here commonly return hard water and often iron. A panel from a certified lab is what tells you, and local health departments periodically run low-cost clinics.
A genuine design factor rather than an occasional nuisance. Daleville holds below freezing for days at a time, and duration is what does the damage. A short cold night is survivable, a long spell finds every gap in the insulation. Disconnecting every hose in November prevents the majority of outdoor tap failures.
Septic across most of Daleville, which puts the whole system inside your property line and outside anyone else's inspection regime. The one number worth having is the measured sludge depth at each pumping, because a few years of those readings sets your true interval far better than a rule of thumb.
Look at the wellhead and the tank, in that order. The casing should stand proud of the ground with an intact cap, and nothing should be pooling around it. Then at the tank: note the gauge reading and whether the pump cycles rapidly under a running tap, because rapid cycling is a tank fault and it destroys pumps while you wait.
In most cases yes. Emergencies, a burst pipe, sewage backing up, no water at all, are prioritised over scheduled work, and someone is reachable at any hour. For planned work such as a repipe or a water heater replacement, we will normally offer a slot within a few days.
